Rivian Canadian deliveries cleared | Automotive News Canada

Electric pickup maker Rivian is finally allowed to deliver its trucks to Canadian customers.

Transport Canada this week certified and registered the automaker to sell in Canada.

The approval comes just a few days after Drive Tesla — an electric vehicle website — reported Rivian had failed to meet all the necessary requirements to deliver their trucks in Canada. That changed a day later.

In an email to Automotive News Canada, Rivian confirmed Transport Canada needed more information and additional documentation before certification. That was provided this week.

Transport Canada’s Preclearance List of Recognized Vehicle Importers now lists both the R1T (Truck OEM) and R1S (MPV) as certified.

Earlier this year, Rivian told Automotive News Canada that first Canadian deliveries of its R1T and R1S were scheduled for this July.

A Rivian spokesperson late Thursday didn’t say when deliveries are now expected to begin.
