Thousands of Capri Sun Cases Recalled Over Possible Cleaning Product Contamination

More than 5,700 cases of Wild Cherry-flavored Capri Sun juice potentially contaminated with diluted cleaning solution have been voluntarily recalled, Kraft Heinz recently announced.

The cleaning solution is typically used on the food processing equipment and has been inadvertently introduced into a production line, the company said on Friday. Consumers contacted the company with complaints of the juice’s taste.

The “best when used by” date for all of the affected pouches of juice is June 25, 2023, the company said. The foil pouches hold 6.6 fluid ounces and are packed individually in cardboard boxes.

Kraft Heinz said it’s working with retailers and distributors to get the contaminated juices off shelves. Customers who already purchased the product should not drink any and can return it to the store.

“Kraft Heinz is committed to upholding the highest safety and quality standards,” the company said in a statement.

The universal product code is 087684001004 on the carton and 876840040900 on the case.

Customers can also contact the company at 1-800-280-8252 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern time on weekdays to see if juices they purchased are part of the recall and receive reimbursement.

A spokeswoman for the company declined to say which states or countries received the affected batch or how much cleaning solution was in the pouches. She also did not say how many consumer complaints the company received or if anyone who drank the juice reported adverse effects.
